Online Payment

Securing remote sales, according to the 3D Secure protocol

In the physical world, a person making a purchase with a bank card must have a proven identity, usually established through the use of a unique pin code, thereby guaranteeing the payer’s ownership of the card.

For transactions completed online with a bank card, the bank must be able to verify that the person using the card is indeed the owner, and that the card is not being used fraudulently.

To prevent fraudulent use of bank cards and manage liability, the Dictao solution Dictao Access Control Server (DACS) enables the use of the 3D Secure protocol (Visa and MasterCard) to authenticate cardholders completing online purchases.  The authentication solution offered by Dictao enables banks to verify the identity of the cardholder by choosing a means of authentication adapted according to the profile of the client and the amount of the transaction.

Multiple means of verifying authentication

There are several ways of confirming the identity of a cardholder. For example, the cardholder can receive a code in a SMS on a mobile phone, which can then be entered on the computer (OTP SMS). Or, users can swipe a bank card in a mobile card reader, which will then create a password (EMV CAP). Another method involves entering a password generated by an application on a mobile device (OTP OATH).

There are even solutions for if the cardholder does not have the means of authentication requested. For example, if the cardholder does not have their mobile phone, Dictao authentication solutions propose additional methods of identification (for example a challenge, or question / response scenario).

In addition to these, there are many other ways of establishing a secure authentication, and in the near future more will be developed. These are all supported by Dictao authentication solutions.
